SMP & Scar Camouflaging for Kids
We’ve all known how people can react to a child that looks “different” from others. Some children cope well, but sometimes a scar or hair loss in a child can bring on a lack of confidence or anxiety. Dealing with these issues at a young age can have lifelong consequences.
Queen of SMP knows how hard it can be for children to cope, which is why we specialize in treatments for children. Micropigmentation is safe for kids and can help ease the suffering of looking too different from their peers.
Is it a tattoo?
Micropigmentation does use inks and needles like tattooing, but there are many differences:
Needle size – The needle is only 0.18 millimeters in diameter and has a single point. Tattooists use needles that are 0.30-0.40 millimeters and will use special tools with multiple points for different effects.
Ink – A skilled SMP practitioner is a master of color matching. Matching the existing hair and skin color is crucial for a realistic look. We use organic pigments that stay stable in the skin. Tattooists use non-organic dyes.
Depth – SMP inks go into the skin at less than half the depth of traditional tattooing. This makes the work semi-permanent, but it also keeps the ink droplet from spreading out under the skin and ruining the look. Healing from an SMP treatment is much faster as well compared to a traditional tattoo.
Treating Alopecia
The most common reason for hair loss in a child is alopecia. This is an autoimmune condition where the body destroys hair follicles. This causes total or patchy baldness. Seeing yourself go bald in childhood can be a shock, especially for girls. Scalp Micropigmentation replaces hair follicles with tiny dots that look like natural shaved hair.
So long as the head is kept shaven, SMP can fill in bald spots even in patchy cases of alopecia. Besides making the head look more natural, SMP will not interfere with hair growth if the alopecia goes into remission. This makes SMP an ideal treatment, especially for children who do not want to deal with the hassle of wigs.
Scar Camouflaging
A little scar from a fall is a common sight on a child’s skin, but not all scars are benign. Scars from things like surgery, abuse, or self-harm can be a constant reminder of a traumatic time in a child’s life. Children and teachers might ask questions about them that make your child uncomfortable.
You can cover the scar with clothing, but that’s not a perfect solution. That’s why we offer scar camouflaging. Scar camouflaging uses micropigmentation techniques to blend the color of the surrounding skin into the scar. After treatment, the scar is much more difficult to see, even up close. This technique works on all skin colors.
Queen of SMP is proud to specialize in micropigmentation treatments for children. No child should have to suffer from anxiety because of hair loss or a scar.
